PolyDADMAC (polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride) is commercially available in three primary physical forms in China and globally:
The most common and widely used form, especially in China’s water treatment, papermaking, and textile industries.
Typically supplied as a clear to pale-yellow viscous aqueous solution with an active content of 40% to 60%.
Advantages: Easy to handle, dissolve instantly, compatible with automated dosing systems.
Disadvantages: Higher shipping costs (due to water content); may thicken at low temperatures.
A solid form with high purity, usually containing ≥90% active ingredient.
Advantages: Lower transportation and storage costs; long shelf life.
Disadvantages: Requires on-site dissolution; generates dust during handling (posing potential inhalation or safety risks).
Used in specific applications or regions where liquid logistics are impractical.
Appears as small, free-flowing white or off-white beads or granules (typically 0.5–2 mm in diameter), also with ≥90% active content.
Advantages:
Dust-free handling (safer and cleaner than powder);
Controlled dissolution rate;
Excellent flowability for automated feeding systems.
While less dominant in the domestic Chinese market, its use is growing in high-end water treatment, oilfield chemicals, and export-oriented products.
Liquid polyDADMAC dominates the domestic market—estimated to account for over 85% of total consumption—due to its ease of integration into existing treatment infrastructure.
Powder and bead forms are produced mainly by large manufacturers equipped with spray-drying or granulation technology (e.g., Shandong Jiahe, Anhui Tianwei, Jiangsu Fumei, etc.).
The Chinese chemical industry standard HG/T 5738–2020 "Water Treatment Chemicals – PolyDADMAC" specifies technical requirements for both liquid and solid forms (including powder and granules).
In China, polyDADMAC is commercially available in three physical forms: liquid, powder, and beads/granules.
Liquid is the mainstream choice for most applications, while powder and bead forms serve niche or specialized markets requiring high concentration, easy transport, or dust-free handling.
